North Dakota: Things to Do and See

  1. World's Largest Buffalo: is a sculpture of an American Bison located in Jamestown, North Dakota at the Frontier Village. It is visible from Interstate 94, overlooking the city from above the James River valley. It was created in 1959.
  2. Salem Sue: is the world's largest Holstein cow. Made of fiberglass the sculpture located in New Salem, North Dakota. Salem Sue was built in 1974 for $40,000. The project was sponsored by the New Salem Lions Club in honor of the local dairy farming industry.
  3. Geographical Center of North America: Located in Rugby, ND stands a rock obelisk in a gas station parking lot .
  4. Theodore Roosevelt National Park: Teddy, then not yet president, came to these badlands to hunt Bison, and it's said that they inspired him to launch the conservation movement. The Painted Canyon especially, inside Theodore Roosevelt National Park, is a stunning array of colorful desert and petrified wood and rock formations.
