Oklahoma: Things to Do and See

  1. Blue Whale: The Blue Whale of Catoosa is a waterfront structure, located just east of the town of Catoosa, Oklahoma, and it has become one of the most recognizable attractions on old Route 66. Hugh Davis built the Blue Whale in the early 1970s as a surprise anniversary gift to his wife Zelta, who collected whale figurines. The Blue Whale and its pond became a favored swimming hole for both locals and travelers along Route 66 alike
  2. World's Largest Totem Pole: Ed Galloway's Totem Pole Park consists of eleven objects and one building on 14 acres in Rogers County, Oklahoma. The park is ten miles north-east of Claremore and is located 3.5 miles east of historic U.S. Route 66 and Foyil. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 30, 1999 and is currently owned and operated by the Rogers County Historical Society and the Foyil Heritage Association. The park's main totem pole is claimed to be the "World’s Largest Concrete Totem Pole."
  3. Route 66 Museum: The museum features exhibits on how the route became a liberator of those suffering from the effects of the dust bowl and how it became a part of American history. It's an excellent place to gain a greater perspective on the profound effects of American mobility and the freedom of the road. website
  4. Oklahoma Aquarium: With more than 100 exhibits and thousands of animals, you are sure to discover amazing aquatic creatures of all kinds. Whether you're petting stingrays, feeding turtles or walking under the shark tunnel, you will come away with memories of a lifetime. website
